Automatic detection or a manual choice?

Auto-detect identifies the main language in the recording. If you already know it, choose that language in the upload options. A short clip, a long silent opening or a strong accent can make detection less reliable.

The choice is the language spoken in the audio, not the language you want to read. A Spanish recording produces a Spanish transcript. TranscribeCat does not offer translation, and it does not guarantee transcription of every language in a mixed-language conversation.

What to check in the result

  • Review names, numbers and important quotations against the recording. Quality varies by language, accent, background noise and overlapping speech.
  • Speaker labels may be missing or need correction. They separate voices; they do not identify people by name.
  • Norwegian is one language choice. There is no separate Bokmål, Nynorsk or dialect setting; review spelling and dialect words yourself.
  • Mandarin Chinese is the Chinese option. It is not a promise of support for every Chinese language or regional variety.

Downloads and writing systems

TXT, DOCX, SRT and VTT preserve all writing systems. PDF is available only when its font can display the transcript; the built-in PDF font covers Latin, Greek and Cyrillic. For Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, Arabic and other unsupported scripts, use DOCX or TXT instead.
